Community

Neighbours, not numbers.

Moving home is a decision about a street as much as a house. Fanlight's community is for the people who know their street best, and for the people about to join it.

Street Hosts

The neighbour every buyer wishes they could ask.

Street Hosts are local residents, homeowners or tenants, who give buyers a short, honest call about life on their street. They aren't Fanlight staff and they never sell.

How it works

  1. Apply with your street and a few lines about why you love it, or why you'd be honest about it.
  2. Meet us for a 15-minute welcome call about the house rules: be honest, be kind, and never share anyone's private details.
  3. Host calls when buyers ask, usually one or two a month, at times that suit you.

What hosts get

  • £40 per call, paid to you or donated to a local cause you choose
  • The monthly Open Book market note for your area, before anyone else
  • A say in our local guides and in which causes we support
  • A founding-host badge on Ask the Street

We're starting with up to 100 founding hosts per area so that every host gets calls. Founding hosts help shape how the programme works.

Ask the Street

Public answers to everyday questions, postcode by postcode.

Rituals

Small habits that keep a community alive.

A community is what happens regularly. These are ours.

Weekly

Street of the Week

One host introduces their street: the corner shop, the best bench, the honest downsides.

Monthly

First-Timers Circle

A free hour for first-time buyers, with experts and plenty of questions.

Monthly

The Open Book market note

Official prices, rates and rule changes for your area, in plain English.

Quarterly

Open Doors Saturday

Viewings, local makers and a coffee on the green, hosted with neighbours rather than at them.

Bring a neighbour

Recommend us, and your street gets the reward.

When someone you refer completes a sale with Fanlight, we give £250 to a local cause of your choice: a school PTA, a food bank, a park group. Not to you, and not to us.

  • No cap on how many causes you support
  • Paid on completion, with a public thank-you on Ask the Street (only if you want one)
  • Your neighbour gets the same fixed fee as everyone else; no hidden discounts

House rules

How we look after each other

  • Be honest. Good and bad. A buyer would rather hear about the Friday bins than find out in week one.
  • Be kind. Talk about streets, never about named neighbours.
  • Keep it private. No addresses, house numbers or personal details in public answers.
  • No selling. Hosts don't value homes, recommend tradespeople for payment or promote listings.
  • Say when you're unsure. "I don't know" is a perfectly good answer.
